  • Racing Wheel: These steering wheel controllers are the heart of a racing rig. Wheels with a gear-driven force feedback system are a good choice for beginners, while more advanced users often choose a belt-driven or direct drive controller.
  • Pedals: Gas and brake pedals are the other essential elements of a racing setup. Some pedal sets include a clutch, while others use only the gas and brake. Pedals that use a potentiometer are the standard beginner option, while more advanced racers will often graduate to a pedal set that uses either load cell or hydraulic-based technology.
  • Racing Seat: A great racing seat will help keep you more comfortable and having more fun while you’re in the thick of competition.
  • Racing Cockpit: If you’re ready to take the leap into full-on sim racing, a racing cockpit is a great investment! These sturdy metal frames allow you to mount your wheel, pedals, racing seat, monitor stand, and more to create a setup that truly immerses you in the experience of hitting the track in your favorite cars. Cockpits are available as standalone units but can also be bundled with a racing seat, and portable cockpit models are another potential option.
  • Gaming Monitor: Look for a monitor with a good refresh rate (at least 60Hz, but preferably 120Hz and above). Larger screen models often provide the best sense of immersion, which means that ultrawide monitors, or even triple monitor setups, are an excellent choice if they’re in your budget.
  • Gaming Platform: Don’t forget to make sure you have a gaming platform that’s up to playing your favorite racing sim. Consoles (such as a PS5 or Xbox) are a popular choice, but a gaming PC is an excellent investment in a great experience for the sim racing lover.
